Neuro Linguistic Programming
Do you ever find that some days are better than others? Or find that there are some situations in which you would like to feel more confident but don’t? Do you ever find yourself not getting on with certain people? Or situations that you would like to handle better or differently? NLP is a fairly simple way of having more good days or feeling more confident or getting along better with people or handling situations just the way you want to.
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. It was founded in California in the 1970’s by John Grinder (a Professor of Linguists) and Richard Bandler (a Systems Analysist and later a Psychotherapist). NLP allows you to change things about yourself and improve communication and relationships with others.
We constantly use our senses to process information in the outside world. Depending on things like our unique life experiences, our beliefs, our values and our own personal preferences, depends on how we then filter that information in to our own internal map of the world in order to make sense of it.
Someone could talk to you all day about NLP but you would still need to experience it to fully appreciate the benefits. If they were to describe to you how to drive a car, for instance, it would be no substitute for actually getting behind the wheel and having a go yourself. NLP is just the same.

NLP and Speech and Language Therapy
I have enjoyed running NLP sessions on an intensive therapy weekend for adults who stammer, at stammering conferences and on study days. More recently, since 2015, I have run courses for SLTs - An Introduction to NLP in Speech and Language Therapy.
I have found that the worlds of NLP and Speech and Language Therapy work particularly well together.
